En réponse à l’invitation de la Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, William Eggleston mène depuis trois ans un vaste travail photographique sur Paris. Faisant suite à la première rétrospective du photographe en 2001, Paris est sa seconde exposition personnelle à la Fondation Cartier. Cette exposition est également une occasion unique de découvrir, en regard des photographies, une récente série de peintures – une dimension de son œuvre jusque-là inconnue et dévoilée ici pour la première fois au public.
For the last three years, William Eggleston has photographed the city of Paris as part of a commission for the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. After his very first retrospective in 2001, this exhibition marks his second solo show at the Fondation Cartier. The exhibition provides an exceptional occasion to bring together William Eggleston’s distinctive pictures and his recent paintings, an unknown aspect of his work that has never before been presented to the public.

Née à Rio de Janeiro, Beatriz Milhazes a émergé sur la scène artistique brésilienne dans les années 1980. Exposée dans de nombreuses galeries et biennales internationales, son oeuvre est aujourd’hui présente dans les collections des plus grands musées du monde. Composées d’une superposition de motifs ornementaux foisonnants, ses peintures éclatantes et hypnotiques font référence au baroque colonial, au modernisme ainsi qu’à l’art populaire brésilien.
Born in 1960 in Rio de Janeiro, Beatriz Milhazes emerged on the Brazilian art scene in the mid-1980s. Exhibited in many galleries and several international biennials, her work is represented in the collections of some of the world’s greatest museums. Intricately layered with a profusion of ornamental motifs, her vibrant and hypnotic paintings refer to sources as diverse as the Colonial baroque, high modernism, and popular Brazilian art.
